A little Valentine’s Day flair, soft winter light, and an easygoing Idaho engagement session.

Winter engagement sessions don’t have to feel styled or overdone to work well. This session took place during that in-between stretch of the season, when snow is patchy and spring hasn’t quite shown up yet. The key was choosing light and letting the rest stay uncomplicated.

K+P showed up ready to move, laugh, and just be themselves. We focused on natural interaction, simple movement, and letting moments unfold instead of forcing a theme. The mix of soft color images and black-and-white frames reflects the pace of the session—easy, relaxed, and honest. When it comes to winter sessions, my best advice is to always add color! I just love how Valentine’s Day red worked with the snow and sun flares.

Sessions like this are a good reminder that strong engagement photos aren’t about the season being perfect. They’re about choosing the right location, paying attention to light, and creating space for couples to feel comfortable together.

Did you know these photos were taken at the BYUI gardens? This is by far one of my favorite locations in Rexburg. It has som many hidden gem spots, is accessible year round, and absolutely gorgeous in Winter!
