When most people think about engagement photos in Grand Teton National Park, they picture peak summer wildflowers or colorful fall leaves. While those seasons are beautiful, spring is one of the most overlooked times to plan a session in the Tetons.

In fact, some of my favorite engagement photos have been taken during this short window between winter and summer.

This recent engagement session took place in early spring, when the mountains still held onto their snow, the grass was beginning to turn green, and the crowds hadn’t yet arrived. The result was a landscape that felt peaceful, open, and uniquely Wyoming.

The Mountains Still Look Incredible

One of the biggest reasons I love spring engagement photos in Grand Teton National Park is that the mountains often look their most dramatic.

While the valley floor begins to wake up from winter, the Tetons remain covered in snow. That contrast between green grass, dark evergreens, and bright mountain peaks creates a backdrop that feels distinctly Grand Teton.

Fewer Crowds, More Space

Summer in Grand Teton National Park is popular for good reason. The weather is warm, the wildflowers bloom, and visitors come from all over the world to experience the park.

Spring offers a different experience.

Many locations are significantly quieter, which means more flexibility and a more relaxed atmosphere during your session. Instead of feeling rushed between visitors, couples often have more space to slow down, explore, and enjoy being together.

That slower pace tends to create more natural photographs and a more enjoyable experience overall.

You Don’t Have to Choose Between Winter and Summer

One of the things I love most about spring is that it feels like a blend of seasons.

You still get snow-covered mountains, but you’re not standing in deep snow. You can enjoy mild temperatures without needing heavy winter layers. The landscape begins to soften and show signs of new growth without the peak-season crowds that arrive later in the year.

For many couples, it’s the perfect middle ground.

What to Wear for Spring Engagement Photos

Spring sessions photograph beautifully with soft, natural colors.

Creams, light neutrals, muted greens, soft blues, and earthy tones all complement the landscape well. Layers are also helpful since mountain temperatures can change quickly throughout the day.

For this session, the couple chose outfits that felt relaxed and comfortable while still coordinating with the scenery. The result felt timeless and natural against the backdrop of the Tetons.

My biggest recommendation is to wear something that allows you to move comfortably and focus on each other rather than constantly adjusting clothing.

Why I Love This Season for Couples

There is something hopeful about spring.

The mountains are beginning to thaw. The days are getting longer. The landscape feels like it’s waking up again.

For engagement photos, that energy fits perfectly. Couples are stepping into a new season of life together, making plans, dreaming about the future, and celebrating what comes next.
