Winter in Grand Teton National Park is quiet in a way that’s hard to describe until you’re standing in it.

The crowds are gone. The roads are calmer. Snow softens everything, and the mountains feel even more present.

But if you’ve ever considered taking photos here in the winter, you’ve probably wondered:
Is it actually accessible?

The answer is yes—with the right locations.

For this session, we explored two of the most reliable and accessible winter spots: Taggart Lake Trailhead and Glacier View Turnout. Both offer incredible views of the Tetons without requiring a long or difficult trek.

Taggart Lake Trailhead in Winter inside Grand Teton National Park

Taggart Lake Trailhead is one of those locations that works in almost every season—but in winter, it becomes something entirely different.

The trail is often packed down enough to walk, especially with the right shoes or boots. You don’t have to go far to start seeing the mountains open up in front of you.

For this session, we stayed relatively close to the trailhead. Even within a short distance, there were plenty of spots where the trees framed the mountains and the snow created a clean, bright foreground.

It’s a good option for couples who want variety without committing to a long hike.

The trailhead has a parking lot a bathroom, and is located just after the park entrance. It requires a park pass, and roads beyond the trailhead are not open to motorized vehicles.

Glacier View Turnout Outside Grand Teton National Park

If you’re looking for something even more accessible, Glacier View Turnout is hard to beat.

You can step out of your car and immediately have a full view of the Tetons.

In winter, this location feels especially open. The snow stretches out in front of the mountains, and the light reflects beautifully across the landscape. It’s simple, but it doesn’t feel lacking.

This is a great option if:

  • You’re working with limited time
  • You want minimal walking
  • You’re traveling and unsure about conditions

Depending on the day, the snow is a few feet above the parking lot. I don’t recommend wheelchairs or bad knees!

What to Expect for Winter Sessions in Grand Teton

Winter sessions here are slower, and that’s part of what makes them work so well.

We build in time for warming up, adjusting to the cold, and moving between locations. Outfits tend to be layered and intentional, and movement becomes part of the session—walking, wrapping up in coats, leaning into each other.

It’s not about standing perfectly still. It’s about working with the environment.

Why Accessibility Matters

Not every couple wants—or needs—a long hike to get meaningful photos.

Some are visiting for a short time. Others are adjusting to winter conditions. And many simply want something that feels easy and relaxed.

Locations like Taggart Lake Trailhead and Glacier View Turnout make it possible to have a full, beautiful session without overcomplicating the experience.

Planning Your Own Winter Session

It means choosing locations that allow you to stay present, move comfortably, and actually enjoy the experience.

If you’re planning a trip to the Tetons and want photos that feel natural, intentional, and easy to step into, I’d love to help you choose the right location and bring it all together.
